Etsy's image and AI rules (October 2026)

What Etsy changed on 22 October 2026 and how ArtworkPilot helps you follow it.

On 22 October 2026 Etsy tightened its rules on AI and listing images. The short version: buyers must be able to see what they will receive and understand your role in making it.

What Etsy requires

  • Every listing image must accurately represent what the buyer receives — no image may make the item look different.
  • The first image should be the clearest, most realistic view of the item.
  • AI-generated art is allowed when you play a clear creative role and disclose it; it must not be presented as handmade.
  • Listings created by bots without human involvement are not allowed and can get a shop removed.
  • Digital items have their own image requirements; check Etsy's Listing Image Requirements policy for your items.
  • If a buyer receives something materially different from the listing, you may have to refund them.

What ArtworkPilot does for you

  • Every package includes an artwork image — the whole artwork, uncropped, on a plain background — and it is the first listing image by default.
  • Mockups place your artwork in room photos without redrawing it.
  • The description says how the images were made and that frames and furniture are not included; AI-created artwork gets a disclosure you cannot remove.
  • Nothing is sent or published without you, and before publishing you confirm that the images represent the item.

Use only room scenes you own or are licensed to use, and do not use scenes with AI-generated people.
